A Word From the Alumni Association's Chairman of the Board Jari Makkonen
Dear Alumnus,
It is time to thank the members of the TKK MBA Alumni Association for your active and collaborative participation in the alumni events we have had during this year. We have beaten all former records when it comes to the number of alumni events and the number of annual membership fees received. I note with great pleasure that there are dozens of new members too, especially from the MBA Program Intakes in the 90s.
In 2009 the association received 150 annual membership fees, exceeding the previous record in 2007 by 30 members. Together with sales from two website banners income is up by 196% compared to 2008. As a result, we have been able to spend more than ever before on exclusive alumni events. Our target naturally is to share all incremental income for the benefit of the association's members. That is our dividend from the membership fee.
Just as it is important to get direct value from the content of alumni events, it is also beneficial to get to know and be better connected with other TKK MBA alumni members. If we know each other better, it will encourage us to come up with new ways to interact with other alumni and utilize our broad network of expertise. During the year we also enhanced our cooperation with the HSE MBA Alumni Association by organizing three joint events. By now there are almost 3,000 TKK and HSE MBA alumni in total.
From the point of view of activities the number of alumni events tripled this year compared to previous years and they were also structured in a more collaborative manner. In addition to company visits, we widened the scope of our event activities with a number of seminars on leadership and entrepreneurship, a panel discussion and a round table discussion on the healthcare industry in November, with HUS being the case contributor. Looking ahead to the new year, there are already a great number of alumni events booked. For example, there are two ministerial level events, which will raise our public profile to a whole new level! You can find an updated activity calendar on the Association’s www-site www.mba-alumni.fi.
Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the active board members Mikko Vuorikoski, Jane Moilanen, Juhana Pakkasmaa, Olli Andersson and Carola Juselius, who, despite many other demands on their time, have shown great commitment to their work for all our alumni .
On the behalf of the board I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas with your families and friends and a Happy New Year in 2010.
Best regards,
Jari
