Flexible and Personalized Study Process
First and foremost, we emphasize flexibility and personalization in our programs. All our MBA programs are part-time and enable you to fit your studies flexibly to the demands of work and life. We accept and process applications throughout the year and you can begin your studies immediately upon acceptance. The curriculum includes several individually completed components which you can finish in your own pace. For example, we have a rolling examination process whereby our MBA students can constantly take any exam they wish.
The curriculum is fully modular and thus it is possible to make personal adjustments to the length of the studies. Some of our graduates have completed the full MBA program in less than one year (normally 2.5 years).
The modularity also allows the personalization of the contents. On top of a number of core modules, our students are able to personally choose their preferred set of elective studies and abroad seminars.
To add, the strongly practice-oriented assignments, project papers and MBA theses are always tailored to add most value to the participants and their organizations. These projects are personally supervised by the experts of Helsinki University of Technology. In addition to the supervision, our MBA team is always willing to personally guide you regarding any challenges and issues related to your studies.
High-Quality International Executive Education
Two principles have guided the design of our MBA programs since the first MBA-intake in 1989. First, we aim to produce high-quality executive education that matches international standards. Second, we aim to deliver the best possible price-quality ratio with relatively high investment in the quality of the education and, simultaneously, the minimization of overhead costs.
The structure and content of the MBA programs are constantly updated to meet the concurrent needs of the participants and their organizations. We don’t want to run after every management fad but aim to have a balanced combination of fresh ideas and solidly grounded, well established business and management principles. All of our programs aim to develop the general management skills of the participants. Thus strategic management is one of the focal perspectives in our programs. This is strongly supported by the internationally award winning academic research that is conducted in the Institute of Strategy and International Business of TKK.
To produce high-quality international executive education, we constantly invite world’s best educators to teach in our programs. Some of them are top experts in their fields in Finland, while many come form top international business schools like Harvard, Stanford, INSEAD, and IMD.
Networks of top people
We constantly ask our graduates what have been the most valuable outcomes from their studies at TKK MBA. Besides increased management knowledge and skills, virtually everyone has reported a dramatic change in their personal contact network.
Even though we process applications on a continuing basis, we always group each year’s intake into cohesive study groups that we call “Intakes”. The members of the Intakes collectively share the funs and pains of their studies. Put differently, by participating our MBA programs you are able to instantly get a 30-40 people network with diverse backgrounds and significant positions in their organizations. These networks typically remain strong after the completion of the studies.
The networking aspect is intensified through a plethora of alumni activities, ranging from professional development to leisure. A majority of the activities are organized by the TKK MBA Alumni Association which currently has more than 700 members.
Demanding Content with Multiple Modes of Learning
We have above emphasized the flexibility of the studies in our MBA programs. Yes, the study process is flexible, but this does not mean that the studies can be completed with ease by just drifting through where the fence is lowest. On the contrary, our students face a demanding, yet rewarding mixture of content that supports several modes of learning. The content of the MBA programs is built on elements such as seminars, workshops, literature, examinations, essays, case studies, and assignments. These require both individual studying as well as intense group interaction.
A Mix of Latest Academic Knowledge and Concrete Business Practice
The curricula of the MBA programs are designed to build a strong bridge between latest academic knowledge and concrete business practice. First, we strongly emphasize and appreciate the knowledge accumulated by the academic community in management, business and organizations. Second, we push forward different ways for applying this knowledge to business practice.
Most of our educators are appreciated scholars in their fields. Yet, at the same time, they are frequently involved in business practice through consulting and applied research. Similarly, the textbooks we use are based on academic knowledge, but add a strong practical flavor through case-examples and managerial best practice.
The “academic practice” aspect is also visible in the TKK Executive School of Business organization which comprises of a balanced mix of people with backgrounds in academia and business practice. The strong academic and industry networks of Helsinki University of Technology support this.
Benefits to Both Individuals and Organizations
Besides the obvious value-added to individuals, the individual’s studies at TKK MBA represent also a profitable investment for their organizations. First, MBA programs are an effective form of competence development. Besides individual learning, key persons’ participation in MBA programs enable the dissemination of latest knowledge across the organization. Second, MBA studies is a good way for motivating, training and providing incentives for key persons. Third, the student projects focused on business practice deliver valuable consulting work without additional cost. Finally, MBA participation increases the networking of key people within and across industries.
